The association’s name was taken from Psalms 89, 3: ” For I have said: ‘For ever is mercy built; in the very heavens Thou dost establish Thy faithfulness.”, which defines an act of mercy as pure and truthful giving without expecting anything in return.
It also emphasizes the importance of acts of kindness thanks to which the world exists and prospers. As it is written “The world is based upon three things: on Torah, on service [of God], and on acts of kindness” (Avot, Chapter 1, Mishna 2).
